No no no, you misunderstood. Will commented that films hardly ever do justice to books in general, not referring to Harry Potter. I then said that this is only true when the books are already very well known like in the case of Harry Potter because most of the movies nowadays have come from books that aren't previously very popular.

Ah sorry, yeah completely misunderstood. So you're saying movies based on less popular books often are better interpretations?

Sometimes, but it's probably more based on the fact that books that are already famous before coming movies already have gained fans that are very particular about the movies being true to the books, where as if it's not famous people don't really mind if it diverts from the book. Most of the best films of all time are based on books, however no one really cares if they're true to the book because the book wasn't already famous beforehand, if that makes sense.

I honestly prefer films that don't stick to the books so closely. Eg: I think the third film is much better than the first two when hp is concerned. I think a film does justice to a book by creating a good film based on it's concept, and I think it's more likely to do this if it just takes the idea of the book and then goes with it, rather than trying to stick to each little detail of the books.
One of my favourite book to film adaptations is Howl's Moving Castle, and they change everything from the book.

Agreed, the third and fourth films films are the best, even if the third does stuff up the continuity with different robes and other things. I think alot of the time books dont translate that well to film so in those cases it's alot better if films don't adhere so much to the book.
EDIT: After just finishing the second one it seems to be a recurring theme in her books either accidentally or purposefully that they always seem to go after the wrong person in each book before finding the right one. In the first book they think it's Snape but it's Quirrel, in the second they think it's Malfoy and then Hagrid, in the third they think it's Sirius but it turns out it's not. Just something I've noticed, she always sends them on a wild goose chase after the wrong person which then leads to the right one.

Well it's like, you can't have a twist unless you think something wrong first. The twist is then revealing the right thing.
I think the most recent film was the best imo. But in general I don't like Dan or Emma, whenever they're on screen I'm just 'argh go away'.

Yeah I suppose, there are other ways to insert a twist though.
Dan and Emma are the best actors I thought, while I still enjoyed the sixth and seventh film, they feel alot like a prelude to the finale, which should be pretty epic, but still.

No I disliked them so much, I would be getting into the film and starting to find it immersive and then it would cut to one of them and it would bring me right out because I'd shopped to see them.

I still quite liked them, but I had to ignore the books to do so, which is not an easy task at all.
