I wouldn't say I have a preference (though I don't take history and only did my compulsory 3 years of it because I was bad at writing essays for it- so maybe it's because I just stumble across information).
WW2 is obviously interesting and important to learn about. But mostly finding out about things in the past is awesome and interesting. History of specific things is intriguing too- Steam for one I find interesting, and the same with monuments that hold importance today.

This is really bad, but I have a terrible memory when it comes to historic things. I remember bits and pieces of everyday life things, but on the whole if I had to make a timeline of progression I couldn't do it. It really bothers me because I'd like to be able to have a period of history that really interests me or I enjoy finding books about, but I just can't retain the information. YAY WEIRD PERDY BRAIN!

When I was in school (which was far too long ago now) I really found Paré as a person/what he did interesting, and the Black Death... but that might be because for some reason I absorbed that information very well back then, o'course I've forgotten it all now. But I don't really have much interest at the present time...

I hate history lessons but I do still like it. Personally, I rather like Ancient Rome and Greece as well as 20th Century history - particularly 20th C German history (for obvious reasons).

When I was in high school, our history class was about American History, and I remember I like that class.
