That's a bit harsh; Twilight is a brilliant of example of both how not to write and of how to write something that will still be rather popular if you hit the market at the right time.

I personally love this book. Its maybe up there on my list of favourites. I read Twilight before the hype and thought it was an ok series, it was rushed and went against a lot of the typical vampire lore but it started of ok. However now I wouldn't pick it up and read it again. A few times was enough when I actually liked it. Now thanks to how popular its become and the large majority of stupid fans I cant stand it. (please not, if your a fan I'm not necessary calling you stupid so don't take offence.)
anyway when I read this book it was still back when I liked Twilight and found that it was so much better than I had originally thought it was going to be. Not only is it a different story (of course) to twilight but it is also like Stephenie Meyer didn't write it herself as the style is a lot better.
I have recommended it to a lot of people and always tell them to keep an open mind, that just because of who the author is doesn't mean its going to be a poor as twilight. In a way I'm looking forward to the film. In a way I'm not. Regardless its a good book and I think people should give it a go.

That's ok, I don't think we have any die-hard Twilight fans here. I agree with what you said, although I do think the plot in The Host dragged in some places where it was completely unnecessary. Although I must say the book is definitely a guilty pleasure I'm kind of apprehensive about the movie... I just don't think The Host is a good book to adapt into a film.

Haha that's good then. My partners younger sister is a die-hard fan and any time I say anything bad about it we get into and argument about which is better out of Twilight and Harry Potter LOL.
You know, its been so long since the last time I read it that I don't remember if it dragged or not, just remember loving it. I think I'll read it again. Most likely not until the start of next year though, I've got so many other books that I've got to read for the first time.
I understand what you mean, and it wasn't until I really thought about it that I didn't think it would do well as a film at all. I'm sad in a way because the only reason they are turning it into a film is because of who wrote it and the fact that Twilight will be over soon.(thank god)
It seems like every book I love is being turned into a film lately, a bad one at that. I think I'm just going to start reading underrated books, ones that aren't popular enough to touch haha.

The Twilight vs. Harry Potter argument is like the classic struggle between two cosmic forces battling it out for a claim to the universe... in which HP wins, imo Especially since the Twilight fad has been dying out considerably. Yeah... In a way I feel like the movie is just going to be made to milk the cash cow, if you know what I mean. It just is a really difficult book to adapt because so much of the book's plot is driven by Wanda/Melanie's internalized thoughts... plus a sizable chunk of the book is Wanda squatting in a cave lol. There has been a ton of book-to-movies lately... one I think will turn out well though is The Hobbit, especially because Lord of the Rings turned out so well. I love reading popular books, but I really love the underrated ones as well. Makes it feel as though the book is truly mine (which is selfish, but I think people are allowed to be selfish about books they really really love).

Haha HP wins hands down every time. & I know, isn't it wonderful?
Yeah I know exactly what you mean, it will be interesting to see how they manage to do it, Its not something I think a voice over can capture.
I know this is like blasphemy but I still haven't got around to reading LOTR, although I'm a huge fan of the films. I like popular books, because sometimes I come across a gem. Like The Hunger Games or The Fault In Our Stars. But Lately it seems all my favourite books are being made into films. My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult was an amazing book, one of the first (of many) books I had read by Jodi and they changed the ending. Not in a small way either. Eragon by Christopher Paolini was so bad they wouldn't even make a second. Before I Die (known as now is good) by Jenny Downham, The City of Bones by Cassandra Clare, Divergent by Veronica Roth ect. The only one they seem to have done justice to so far is The Lovely Bones.
And the worst part about it is that most of them were pretty low key before being made into a film. It just sucks haha Sorry for the rant, it just something I get annoyed about.

They're making Divergent into a film? I didn't know this, but count me in as one viewer of that one for sure.
And I hated how they changed the ending of My Sister's Keeper too. Did they think everyone would hate it if they kept it how it was in the book (which I certainly wasn't expecting to happen)

This is also blasphemy but... I didn't enjoy the LOTR books as much as the films. I really enjoyed Fellowship of the Ring, but Two Towers was so "meh" that I still haven't read the 3rd yet. But the movies are nearly perfect :3
The Fault in Our Stars is a good one. You can always count on John Green! And omg the Eragon movie... so bad... I have yet to read Divergent; I've heard from various sources that it's good.

I found out while searching Evan Peters (yum!) and its rumoured that he'll be looking at the script (don't hold me to that). & I know, I thought that everything else up that point was good. And then they just did a 360 on the ending and I was left confused to hell. I hate it.

They books to me are rather poor but the show is brilliant. And very different. I think LOTR is going to be one of the first book/series I read in the new year. Well... I say that but I could be very wrong haha The Fault in Our Stars is very good, sad but good. I'm beginning to see that you can haha. I read An Abundance of Katherines a few weeks ago and this more have just finished Looking For Alaska. He has not failed me yet haha. Oh god, Eragon was like... I don't know. The reason I read it is because in the shop the book had a little sleeve around it letting us know there would be a film soon. And I thought it looked good so I picked it up, loved it and hated the movie. (sad I know) but 5 minuets into the film I was crying because they had just spoilt it for me. I haven't got around to finishing the 2nd one or 3/4 yet but I found out something about it while on this forum so I think I'll stay clear of it till I forget haha Try and get your hands on Divergent. Its really good and you'll like it if your a fan of The Hunger Games. If not you might still like it haha
