Just Listen - Sarah Dessen This novel follows the story of Annabel, who seems to have a perfect life until her best-friend starts calling her a sl*t and wh*re and other such hateful things. Annabel is a model, as are her two older sisters. All beautiful and successful. However after her best friend shuns her (you find out why - ad it's hinted at- throughout the book) she gets cast onto the bench all alone. On the wall she meets Own - a boy who's been arrested, taken Anger Management classes and punched a guy in the school yard. As Annabel's life continues to crumble (both at home, at school and in her mind), Owen gives her some new music to listen to, and is quite blunt in expressing his beliefs and truth to her. Throughout the story things about Annabel, her friends Sophie and Emily, her sister's deteroration, her terrible incident that has left her emotionally scarred, and her inability to open up to people and say how she really feels. Oh my gosh, I really need to sort out my reviews, they go rambly and all over the place :S But seriosuyly, it's a fantastic book. The back cover makes it seem like another teenage, 'girl's life looks perfect but really sucks'type novel, but it's deeper than that *Waring: it does tap into some pretty serious (though perfectly relevant to a teenage existance) issues*

I feel like this book had a lot of potential, but honestly... I didn't like it very much. It was kind of formulaic :/
