ANIME: Admittedly I never got round to finishing the anime version, but I will eventually... Promise. Basically its a modern version, where Lady Juliet plays the badass Hero, kicking villians asses- but hidden as a boy. Romeo is from a rich family of annoyingness from what I remember, but its just so interesting and a cool twist- but just as heart renching (leaving me in tears a couple of times) I totally get the whole star crossed lovers thing, and I love the story of Romeo and Juliet- because it's still true to this day. While the original is confusing, I still love how it is set, and loved going through it with school. I've never seen it as a play but imagine its just as good. P.S The anime has the song "you raise me up" for the pure reason that this was originally made in Japanese, and the song for the opening sequence was "you raise me up"- the japanese version. (Anime Romeo is fit. )

By film, I assume you been the 1995 version with Leonardo DiCaprio ( )?? I actually liked that film even though everybody thinks it's weird because everyone talks Shakespeare in a modern setting. But whatever, I thought it was a good film. I actually haven't read the play... everyone in my school read it, but my class was the only one that decided to read Julius Caesar instead -__-

My bested Romeo & Juilet version is probably lion king 2. I know its not really about that but I think the storyline is really sweet.
I've read Romeo & Juilet and watch the film when I was at school and man thats a long time ha but I think its a good story and sad at the end.

Oh dear the opening scene for DiCaprio's R&J was AWESOME. That's all I really remember.
Romeo and Juliet will forever remain to be one of Shakespeare's best and known, and for good reason. I liked doing it in school a couple of years ago, but it was kinda over-analysed, which takes the fun out of any book for me.
Not only is Mercutio a great name, but he was my favourite character too.

We watched two films, the 1995 Lurhman one and the Franco Zeffirelli (1968) versions. I loved them both. The newer one was more modern which of course always makes a text interesting to see what they change and how. And the other version was fantastic because it was exactly how out of the play I imagined it. Yeah

Romeo and Juliet is awesome Also I will say it again- anyone who likes it in the film/play or whatever check out the anime. :L Its adapted and has pegasus, and fighting and its a really cool take on Romeo and Juliet. Same basic plotline, but with extra awesomeness added. (By awesomeness I mean that Juliet also happens to be "The Red Whirlwind" a caped crusader who goes around fighting the guards and saving the poor. But she has to keep her identity hidden and stuff. Omg it's cool. Weird. But cool.) Also I love modern takes on Romeo and Juliet. Mostly because its so easy to apply to real life cause the whole family rivalry happens all the time where kids aren't allowed to be together for such petty reasons. As a love story goes it's pretty timeless.

I prefer the 1995 version, but that just be because Leo DiCaprio is in it... but anyhow... I had no idea there was an anime! Japanese or English dub?
