We haven't finished the book yet so I can't agree or disagree.
But if you saw that your son had dug his way into a concentration camp then your husband suddenly shouts his name in a way you can tell means no good. Then I think the first thing that is going to come to your head is 'he's dead'.

That's the point the dad didn't even see him go into the room where all the Jews died he could have just snuck off somewhere else in the concentration camp...

I'm guessing, by the amount of posts here, that this thread is quite popular. I was wondering what you thought about the book and whether I should give it a go?

I loved it. But i cried so much at the film. It was so sad. Once again I say how can you cry in this movie? I guess some people cry at different stuff. I only cry like once a year, but never in public. Anyway, back on topic it's a good book that you could cry over!

The first bit takes a while to get into, but the horrific truth starts after that and grips you with horrific truth.

hmm, so the movie is way worse, I suppose. thank goodness. my English teacher showed us the movie and some of were crying, while I myself shivered at the ending. although somehow, I didn't really catch the meaning/message they're trying to convey throughout the film. maybe I should have read the book, hehe~ ^^
