A mix of crime and thriller/horror really, but crime none-the-less. Slaughter's books are perhaps suited to an older audience due to the content that often infiltrates the pages. For those without a strong stomach and open to strong scenes of horror are best not reading them.
She currently has two series - one featuring the Grant County bunch and another featuring Trent, Amanda etc. In her last book these series were merged.

Sounds Interesting, could you elaborate a bit more on the plot?

I can, but because the series contains separate plots, and there's more than one series I'll stick to the bare basics.
The grant country series -
Set in rural Georgia, the series begins with Blindsighted and introduces the main characters in Sara (pediatrician and coroner), Jerffery Tolliver (chief of police), and Lena Adams (the only female detective in the county.) In Blindsighted Sara finds viciously raped and killed Sibyl Adams; when a second body turns up it is revealed that Sara and Jeffrey are dealing with a seasoned serial killer.
Further books are - kisscut, a faint cold fear, indelible and faithless.
Will Trent -
"When Atlanta police detective Michael Ormewood is called out to a murder scene at the notorious Grady Homes, he finds himself faced with one of the most brutal killings of his career: Aleesha Monroe is found in the stairwell in a pool of her own blood, her body horribly mutilated. As a one-off killing it's shocking, but when it becomes clear that it's just the latest in a series of similar attacks, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are called in, and Ormewood is forced into working with Special Agent Will Trent of the Criminal Apprehension Team -- a man he instinctively dislikes. But then, only 24 hours later, the violence Michael sees around him every day explodes in his own back yard. And, it seems the mystery behind Monroe's death is inextricably entangled with a past that refuses to stay buried..." - From the offical website.
